Extracting or Harvesting Media off of P2 cards

Two ways of doing this

  1. Using the Laptop’s PCMIA SLOT -- 2 to 3 times faster than using the P2 Store on Macintosh
  2. Using the P2 Store -- Good to use in conjunction with laptop method or use as an additional backup option

Steps to offloading Media

  1. Connect the P2 card reader or P2 store to the laptop's USB port. Click for how to use the P2 store
  2. Connect the firewire drive to the laptop’s FireWire port. (MUST OFFLOAD FILES TO EXTERNAL DRIVE. LAPTOP HAS NO STORAGE SPACE)
  3. Insert the P2 card into the P2 card reader
  4. Insert the P2 card into the PCMIA slot on laptop

Move the media to the firewire drive via the finder. Just drag and drop the “CONTENTS” folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file to firewire drive

Importing MXF files (originated from Panasonic HVX200/P2) into Avid
See Helpsheet: HOW TO IMPORT MXF FILES INTO AVID

NOTE AVID DOES NOT MAKE QUICKTIMES LIKE FINAL CUT. AVID USES THE P2 MXF MEDIA NATIVELY SO DOES NOT MAKE NEW MEDIA WHEN IMPORTING.

Copy P2 media on to the Storage Drive in a folder called Avid MediaFiles>MXF>1

Go to Drive and look for a folder called AVID MediaFiles inside that a folder called MXF and then inside that a folder called 1.

Put all MXF files in the folder called 1.

The MXF files to import are only the ones located in the VIDEO and AUDIO folders (under CONTENTS)

Making a New Project in AVID

Launch AVID

Create a project that matches the MXF media frame rate and aspect ratio.

Usually 720p/23.976 or 1080p/23.976 or 1080i/59.94.

Name project and click OK

Bringing Media into AVID Project
