BOLEX
All of our Bolex cameras have "names." Cameras with similar features have similar names.The theory is that it is easier to remember 13 names than it is to remember 13 six digit numbers. If a particular camera gives you joy or pain, remembering the name will help you request it or avoid it.
You must manually open the gate on the RX-0. On other Bolex cameras the gate opens when you put the door on. In order to avoid disappointment, it is a good habit to manually open the gate on ALL Bolex cameras.
The RX-0 in the BROWN case has a lock which keeps the case from accidentally opening. The lock can also keep YOU from opening the case if you don't know the trick. After you secure the latch, turn the round knob. Test to be certain you cannot accidentally open the case.
We have several REWIND CRANKS. These come in various sizes. Unfortunately you can not tell them apart by looking at them. The cameras each yake a different size. Very confusing! You must physically try the REWIND CRANK on your camera to be sure it fits. If it does not fit, it will not work!
Set your camera speed to 64 BEFORE you put the motor on or you may put drag on the motor. If you do not set the speed to 64, the governor on the camera will control the camera instead of the motor controlling it, and your speed will run too slow (because of the drag).
Testing the Bolex Motor
Bolex motors can only fit on certain Bolex cameras. First, make sure there's no wind on the spring motor. Remove the winding crank by putting it in the normal winding position and slowly "winding" clockwise. Set the film speed to 64 fps, lock the trigger in the "M" position, and disengage the spring motor (put the "MOT/O" lever in the "O" position). Set the camera on/off switch to the "M" position. Place the motor on the camera by matching up the screws. Tighten the screws lightly with a slotted screwdriver or coin. Carefully attach a charged 12V battery (e.g., Bescorp LCR) to the camera with the cable provided.* Depress the silver button on the front of the motor. The camera should run at speed (24 fps), indicated by a constant white light on the back of the motor.
* Note:
When detaching this cable from the motor, make sure you unscrew the cable all the way before removing it. In the past, people have tugged hard on the cable while it was partly screwed onto the motor, causing damage to the cable.
