America Rodríguez earned a B.A. in English and Spanish Literature at Swarthmore College in 1978. For the next decade she worked as a journalist, most recently as a Los Angeles-based correspondent for National Public Radio. In 1993 she received her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of California, San Diego. She has recently published articles on the relationship between Mexican and U.S. television news production, on the national news systems of the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and on U.S. Spanish language broadcasting.
