What is the best method to access email off-campus? Use a web-based server!
From site http://webmail.utexas.edu you may access your email on the "mail.utexas.edu" server from any web browser. You will need to know your UT EID (electronic ID), your EID password, your Eudora username (the letters prior to "@mail.utexas.edu"), and your email password. Make sure you know all this information before you travel. The only disadvantage to this site is that it is somewhat slow--try using it during the lower-demand evening and weekend hours.
The information provided by the College Tech Team at
http://www.utexas.edu/computer/news/features/0112/outofaustin.html
is very helpful. For example, it suggests other web-based services to access your email, if you don’t want to use Webmail. Read it before you go!
Please remember that if you choose to use a modem to dial long-distance to the University’s server using an ACITS account, you are financially responsible for any long-distance telephone costs incurred. This can cost hundreds of dollars, which the department budget simply cannot afford, especially when these other viable options exist.
