DHL Airbills
Gloria Holder or designee will visit relevant classes (Film I is an exception.*) early each semester and sell Airborne airbills to students. A package less than 3 pounds costs $5.50.** Students should estimate the total number of airbills necessary for the whole semester. (PacLab processing requires a send airbill and a return airbill.)
Undergraduate students can purchase airbills during the first twelve class days of any given semester and during one pre-selected week mid-semester (dates to be determined and announced during first twelve class days of each semester). Students should estimate the total number of airbills necessary for the whole semester or be prepared to handle their shipping without department assistance or University discounts. This is a time intensive courtesy service provided by the department and it can not conflict with regular duties of department staff.
* Sender should fill out Section 2, 4 (check red box), 5, 6, and 7. Sign the airbill. Sender keeps top copy for their records (tracking number). If a second airbill is purchased for the return of film, all copies should be enclosed with the film, and the sender should retain the airbill number.
* Payment should be cash, check, or money order payable to "RTF Dept. at the University of Texas at Austin ." No credit card payments. Department staff will provide rates should the package exceed 3 pounds or is being sent to a residence or necessitates a Saturday delivery.
* DHL automatically picks up packages from the RTF office (CMA 6.118) at 4:00 PM every Monday through Friday. (If this option is used, it is not necessary to call DHL to arrange a pick-up.) Packages dropped off after the regular pick up will go out the next business day or the sender can hand carry the package to a DHL facility or a dropbox with a later pick up.
* Processed film should be sent back to student via DHL. This requires enclosing a letter to them with instructions to return via Airborne and requires including a second completed Airborne airbill addressed to the student. For two airbills under 3 pounds each = $11.00 ($5.50 for 1 airbill)
* Film I shipping will be coordinated between the instructor/teaching assistant and Gloria Holder or designee. Shipments will be consolidated by department staff prior to pick up by DHL. A $20/semester shipping fee will be collected during the first twelve class days rather than providing airbills to each student for each shipment. Additional instructions will be provided when Gloria Holder or designee visits the Film I class at the beginning of each semester. This is done to promote efficiency and provide a cost savings to the students.
**Prices of individual airbills are subject to change upon notification from the Express Service provider to the RTF Department. Current pricing offers a 3 pound package to a business for $5.50. Residential delivery is an additional $3.00. Saturday delivery is an additional $1.50. Insurance is $.70/$100 value. Department staff will calculate your charges at the time you request an airbill.
