Faculty
The RTF Media Library wants your input on what the collection should contain. To this end, you are invited to submit your requests for library acquisitions at any time. However, certain guidelines should be followed so that all patrons are fairly represented.
There are two major factors influencing purchases:
1) items needed for classroom screenings and
2) items requested by users deemed worthy of merit.
Items necessary for use in evening class screenings are given top priority. If your requested item is intended for research purposes or for use as a source for clips, it is then considered second priority (i.e. a Wish List item).
Items for Evening Screenings (fee attached)
If you have regularly-scheduled evening screenings attached to your course offering and have a Cinematexas Screening Fee attached to your class (these fees generate revenue for the library), you are granted an allotment of approximately $300 per semester for associated purchase of films or other programs. The requested items and their anticipated screening dates should be submitted to the RTF Media Library at least one month prior to the beginning of the semester they will be needed.
For FALL 2005 items, please submit requests by August 15, 2005 (classes begin August 31, 2005).
Please note that last-minute requests made while the semester is in progress are regarded as Wish List items and should not be expected to be immediately purchased.
If you are a faculty member requesting an item for use in class, but you do not have a Cinematexas screening fee attached to your class, your item request will be considered a Wish List item. However, if delivered at least a month prior to the beginning of the semester, these requests will be given higher priority.
The Wish List is maintained each semester, with rollover. It is developed through the input of all RTF Media Library patrons. Wish List requests are collated after all screenings materials are received and their costs assessed. Wish List items are then prioritized according to the number of requests each item has received, comparative price of the item(s), and demand for the item(s).
This policy and practice, as opposed to a "first come, first served" basis, is in place in order to best represent the needs and wishes of all RTF Media Library patrons.
