Johnny McAllister

Johnny McAllister is a filmmaker and writer from Donegal, Ireland. He has written and/or produced films that have screened at international festivals including Cannes, Sundance, SXSW and Austin Film Festival. Born in Iran to Irish parents and raised throughout the Middle East, Europe and the U.S., Johnny continues to produce work in and about the uncommon place, whether it's southern Lebanon, Northern Ireland or small-town East Texas.

In 2009, Johnny co-founded Transterra Media, an on-line news media marketplace based in Beirut and Cairo. Johnny spent the next four years as the Lead Producer and Chief Information Officer, training and managing production crews across the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf. In 2013, Transterra received The Red Herring Award.

Johnny's first produced screenplay was local director Bob Byington's second feature film, OLYMPIA. His work on Sameh Zoabi's short film, BE QUIET, won third prize for the Cinefondation award at Cannes in 2006. More recently, Johnny produced and co-wrote BOOGER RED with another Texas filmmaker, Berndt Mader. His script 'Under The Bridge' was a second rounder at the 2015 Austin Film Festival and was a finalist at the Pitch Contest. His latest collaboration, BULL, written with Annie Silverstein, was accepted into the 2016 Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab. He received his MFA from Columbia University in 2006.
