Karin Gwinn Wilkins (PhD, University of Pennsylvania, 1991) is an Associate Professor with the Department of Radio-TV-Film at the University of Texas at Austin, holding affiliations with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Population Research Center. Currently, Wilkins holds an Abe Fellowship sponsored by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership. Other awards include those from Rotary International, St. Andrew’s Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. Wilkins serves as the Vice-Chair of the Intercultural/Development Division of the International Communication Association and the Treasurer/Secretary of the Chinese Communication Association.

Wilkins’ research focuses on development and international communication, as well as media and social change. Some of her work can be found in ReDeveloping Communication for Social Change (Rowman & Littlefield, 2000), Communication Theory, Media, Culture & Society, Journal of Communication, International Journal of Public Opinion Quarterly, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Media Development, Media Asia, Journal of International Communication, Peace Review, and the Asian Journal of Communication, among other venues.
