DETAILS: Few contemporary novelists have made a significant dent in both literature and film like Tom Perrotta. After his novella Election was adapted by Alexander Payne into the sleeper dark comedy with Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon, Perrotta’s fiercely witty and engaging tales of Middle American contradiction have been enthusiastically embraced by literary and film audiences alike. His novel Little Children was adapted into the 2004 film of the same name starring Kate Winslet and Jackie Earle Haley, and Perrotta received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay he co-wrote. The film version of his most recent bestseller, The Abstinence Teacher, is currently in pre-production, with Perrotta penning the screenplay and the “Little Miss Sunshine” directing team of Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris helming the project. Join us as John Pierson leads a conversation with Perrotta about his career as a novelist and screenwriter.
