Prerequisites

Must be an RTF major with a UT GPA of at least 2.25 and have upper-division standing. The following course work with a grade of at least C in each course: RTF 305, either 314 or 316, and 6 additional semester hours of lower-division coursework in RTF. Recommended: RTF 317.

Consent requirements

This course does not require consent. Registration is open via the online registration system to all RTF majors.

Students must attend first class day or make prior arrangements with the instructor.

Course description

RTF 333 will introduce you to screenwriting and will expose you to many of the varying forms which writing for the screen may take. Through writing exercises, script analysis and class discussion, your writing skills will be developed. Additionally, you will learn to write coherent, to-the-point script coverage. Course requirements

6 coverage assignments (to be chosen from 9 reading assignments)

A number of short writing exercises

One short script (8 - 12 pages)

One documentary proposal (2 pages)

A final project of 30 pages of script material of your choice (e.g., the first act of a feature, a sitcom, a 30 minute short)

Reading and commenting on your classmates' material on a weekly basis
