Prerequisites

Must be an RTF major with a UT GPA of at least a 2.25 and have upper-division standing. The following coursework with a grade of at least C : RTF 305 and 3 additional hours of lower-division RTF coursework and a B or better in RTF 317 and RTF 318.

Consent requirements

This course does not require consent. Registration is open via the online registration system to all RTF majors.

Students must attend the first class day or they will be dropped.

Course description

Radio Fundamentals presents the fundamental science of sound and basic location or field recording. Students will learn mic placement and usage, a variety of recording devices (excluding cameras) multi-track editing and simple mixing. They will get instruction on the use of the Prophet, automated software for radio programming, board use, and basic audio production utilizing ProTools audio editing software.

Ginger earned her MA in Communications from Fordham University in 2002 and has taught at a number of colleges and universities in the New York area.  Her areas of specialization are oral histories, documentaries, and museum media, and she has worked in radio in New Mexico, Washington DC, New York, and Texas.  Ginger has received a number of grants from the National Endowment from the Arts and various state councils on the arts.
