Prerequisites
For RTF majors, the following coursework, with a grade of at least C in each course: RTF 305; 318 or 319; and 6 additional semester hours of lower-division coursework chosen from RTF 309, 314, 316, 317, and 318 OR 319 (whichever has not already been taken).

Course description
This course will explore the rapidly expanding world of music, sound, and visualization that has emerged from the popularization and simplification of creative software tools and techniques. Many of the programs are freely distributed and have contributed to an explosive growth in the creation of on-line music and visual materials. Students will learn to make short music-visual pieces through hands-on projects.
They will also engage in a critical analysis of the central issues such as:
digital rights and file sharing
aesthetics of music visualization
popular art forms vs. fine art in the context of the Internet
the value of these techniques for educational applications.
