Course description
The goal of this course is to introduce directing students to the acting process so that they might become better equipped to communicate with actors in a professional working relationship. The course will involve both practical (performance) work and reflective (written) study. Through the utilization of improvisation, students will examine the process of developing a technique that satisfies two major acting concerns: 1) establishing onstage communication, and 2) understanding the elements of physical action. They will then apply this technique to scene work as a means of 1) experiencing the acting process, 2) examining scene structure, 3) examining script analysis, and 4) using personal imagination to demonstrate creativity in capturing the essence of truth in a scene.
