Course description

In the past decade personal documentaries have dominated the world of broadcast and theatrical release non-fiction filmmaking. From Michael Moore's Roger and Me and Bowling for Columbine to Judith Helfand's Blue Vinyl, personal documentaries have been on the cutting edge of innovation in non-fiction storytelling and stylistic invention, transforming the documentary genre to the most dynamic field in which to work. In this class, students will draw stories from their own personal experience, working from either their own point-of-view or from the perspective of someone they get to know through the filmmaking process.
