PREREQUISITES
Must be an RTF major with a UT GPA of at least a 2.25 and have upper-division standing. Preference will be given to those who have completed RTF 343 or RTF 338, and it is strongly recommended that those applying to be directors have completed RTF 343 or RTF 338..
REGISTRATION INFORMATION- CONSENT REQUIRED
RTF 368 (Advanced Short Film Production) seeks director/producers and other crew members interested in making festival worthy short films. For consent purposes, contact Scott Rice (srice2@mail.utexas.edu) via e-mail by Sunday, Oct. 23.
In the e-mail, please list:
1. Name
2. UT EID
3. Phone #
4. E-mail address
5. Anticipated date of graduation (e.g. May '06)
6. Whether or not you have taken RTF 333 (Screenwriting)
7. Complete list of production classes you have taken
8. Desired crew position on class project: director/producer ("project lead"), producer only, cinematographer, production designer, editor, or sound recordist/designer.
9. Directors, cinematographers: indicate if you desire to shoot on film or video.
10. Directors: list key crew positions, if any, you have already reserved for friends/collaborators. You will fill other positions with class members of your choice.
11. Directors: ATTACH A SCRIPT (4-10 pages preferred) OR OUTLINE to the e-mail. Directors must have a finished script ready before the semester begins. If you do not have a script but wish to direct, ask the instructor for a package of quality short screenplays available for production.
Consent will be based on:
1. The instructor's perception of your ability to complete the project (through final sound mix) by semester's end. He will contact you later to schedule an informal interview.
2. The quality of your attached script / prior work (instructor may request work sample at later date).

FIRST CLASS DAY POLICY
Students must attend the first class day or make prior arrangements with the instructor.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
For narrative writer/directors intent on creating a calling card film. From pre-production to sound mix, students complete a festival worthy short film or video project (3 to 10 minutes) with the most advanced equipment available to undergraduates. Emphasis placed on storytelling, strong cinematic style, and production value. Students must enter the class with finished scripts. Students do not have to direct--producers, production designers, editors, sound designer/recordists and cinematographers may take the class for full credit. Informal meeting with instructor prior to semester is required.
