COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is the narrative screenplay. Students will explore the basic theory and formal aspects of story structure, character development, use of conflict, scene-writing and dialogue. In class, we will carefully examine each step of the screenwriting process -- through readings of scripts and viewings of films -- then apply those steps to the development of your own script. Each student will have completed a feature-length screenplay by the end of the semester.
In workshop, students will discuss and evaluate each other’s work on a weekly basis, developing their critical skills as screenwriters. The constructive participation of each student is required.
