COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will seek to build a multicultural history of cinema that surveys critical approaches (institutional, aesthetic, technological) and stresses the relationship between films and culture. It focuses on varied contexts of production and reception--mainstream and subcultural, North American and International—in an effort to investigate the many voices and histories of film development.
