COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the student to the fundamental theories and techniques of video production. By the end of the course, each student will have some competence in the areas of videography, editing and audio. Emphasis is on visual story telling. Field video exercises are shot on digital video. Class meetings consist of labs and lectures. Lectures give theories and methods of film production, as well as in-class critiques of students’ projects. Labs consist of hands-on experience with film and video equipment. Classes are divided into 2 sections: studio production emphasizing production with actors and field production emphasizing single camera, real-life stories. Students switch in the middle of the semester. Four major projects expected (2 in Studio sequence and 2 in Field sequence). All projects are in teams of 2-10 teammates.
