ABOUT THE COURSE/PROGRAM

The Digital Media Leadership Program is a structured internship program administered through the Department of Radio-Television-Film.

Selected students will be placed in one-semester or summer internships with digital media (e.g., video gaming, web design) companies in Austin. It is not the responsibility of students to secure the internship; instead, students will be placed in internships with companies that have already committed to the Program.

The program aims to place students at companies that can provide close mentoring relationships with people who are interested in working with students and who are able to provide substantive work projects for the duration of the internship. By completing the Program, students will not only gain work experience, but also professional confidence, abilities, leadership skills, and connections that will serve them well as they transition into their professional careers.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Students must be upper division RTF majors OR upper division students in the Digital Arts and Media Bridging Disciplines Program.

Students will work in their assigned internship for a minimum of 120 hours over the course of the semester.

Students must attend regular meetings held every other week (approximately 7 times during the semester). These meetings will be from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday evenings.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Students must submit the application and a resume by 5 p.m., Friday November 2, to Carly Kocurek at carlykocurek@mail.utexas.edu.

A formal interview is also required. Interviews will be scheduled the week of November 5, and students will be notified as to whether or not they have been admitted to the program by November 8.

Applicants should plan their Spring schedule of classes allowing time both to work at the internship and to attend the Tuesday evening meetings.

Each student admitted to the program will be cleared to register for RTF 330L, unique # 07892, on November 8. The first registration period for Spring ends on November 9. A space will be saved in the class for each admitted student until January 9, 2008; if a student has not added the class by then, his/her space will be given to the next person on the waitlist..
