COURSE DESCRIPTION

Development communication refers to the strategic use of communication to alleviate social problems in developing countries. In the first section, we review and critique historical conceptions of media and modernity. In the second section, we explore the theory and practice of participatory communication, as well as consider recent case studies of development communication projects. In the last part of this course, we discuss the role of new communication technologies in the process of development.
