HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Please check each course listing for fees.
WHERE ARE THE CAMPS?
All class meetings take place in the CMA and CMB buildings on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin in our Department studios. Students may also film outside the building around the campus. Our address is 2504 Whitis Ave.
IS LUNCH PROVIDED?
At lunchtime, we take campers to places on campus, like the Student Union or Littlefield Patio Cafe, which are food-court/cafeteria style eatieries. Participants are responsible for bringing their own lunch or for briging money to purchase lunch. Unless otherwise arranged by a parent, all lunches will be supervised by camp staff.
DOES RTF PROVIDE LODGING?
While many participants do come from out of town, the RTF Media Camps are commuter camps (day only), and unfortunately we are unable to provide lodging. Furthermore, the university does not work with individuals to arrange housing on campus.
In the past, out-of-town campers have traveled with family members who stay with them, or they have stayed with local family. Older campers have stayed at local hotels but always at the discretion of their parents.
Here are a few ideas for local lodging:
Hotels and bed and breakfasts close to campus - Here is a site that the UT international students office put together that lists some: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/students/new/housing/short
Sublet - Try AirBNB or http://www.vrbo.com/
DobieTwenty21 - This is a private dorm on the southern edge of campus. They can rent to minors and by the week. However, please be aware: supervision is minimal.
For those 18 and over: Drifter Jack's Hostel. We don't know much about this place except that it is only a block away from our buildings. Please do your own research. There are also local student co-ops for 18+, such as the Pearl Street Co-Op.
Austin Vistors Bureau: Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau.
DOES PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PICK UP/DROP OFF NEAR THE CAMPS?
There are lots of Capital Metro buses that come very close to the CMA building and CMB Buildings. Bus schedules are online at www.capmetro.org.
DOES RTF PROVIDE EQUIPMENT?
Yes! Campers do not need to bring any equipment from home.
DO I NEED PREVIOUS FILMMAKING EXPERIENCE FOR THE FILM CAMPS?
The film production workshops are designed to teach you about every aspect of filmmaking, from script to screening. They are perfect for aspiring filmmakers of all different experience levels. For the advanced production camp, previous experience is recommended but not required.
WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
- Registrations cancelled before 30 days of the start of the camp session will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee.
- Registrations cancelled within less than 30 days of the start of the camp session will receive a 50% refund.
- Registrations cancelled within 7 days of the start of the camp session are subject to no refund.
WHERE DO I REGISTER?
Registration information is available. Please note appropriate discounts.
WHAT IS THE TAX ID NUMBER?
The University's tax ID is 74-6000203.
WHAT AGE LEVELS ARE THE CAMPS GEARED TOWARDS?
Camps are geared towards different age and grade levels (we use the grade the student will be entering). Students having just finished 12th grade are also welcome. Students starting 10th grade in the Fall are encouraged to take part in the 10th-12th grade sessions. Regardless of skill level, all students who participate need to be able to work well in groups and accept feedback from both their peers and the camp instructor. We will also offer evening workshops for adults and older students.
WHOM DO I CONTACT WITH QUESTIONS?
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions, or if you would like to receive email updates about the camps.
