James graduated from Abilene Christian University with a B.A. in English. During his undergraduate years, James incorporated film into as many of his research papers as possible, especially the films of the New Hollywood era. James is interested in Laura Mulvey's psychoanalytic approach to analyzing Hollywood films and her emphasis on the patriarchal system manifested in the cinematographic structures and editing patterns of classical Hollywood. Other research interests include revisionist genre films, horror films of the New American Cinema, film noir, and minimalism in the films of Robert Bresson and Yasujiro Ozu. James spends too much of his free time lost in thought, overcooking his food and tripping over furniture as he engages in a constant inner monologue.
