Laura graduated from DePaul University in Chicago in 2016 with a B.A. in History and a minor in International Politics. They wrote their undergraduate thesis on the representations of women in American World War I propaganda posters. They are interested in exploring representations of the “other” and the “monstrous” in American horror movies. Current research surrounds the application of necropolitical theory to horror films, specifically the ways invisible structures of power make themselves known through acts of violence.
Other research interests include fan studies and the creation of fan identities, queer representation in film & television, and 20th-century history.
In their limited free time, Laura likes to re-watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier for the millionth time, read true crime and medical history books, listen to podcasts, and peruse Instagram for cat videos.
