Tim's research examines media industries and cultural identity with emphases on live sports texts and sporting institutions. His work is also animated by his interests in media historiography, U.S. television history, critical race theory, and cultural geography. His dissertation project focuses on the production and politics of race and urban place in the partnerships of NBA basketball and the U.S. television industry during the 1970s. He currently serves on The Velvet Light Trap editorial board, and previously co-managed Flow from 2014-17. He has also collaborated on RTF’s Media Industry Conversations series and coordinated the 2014 and 2016 Flow conferences. His undergraduate degree in Media Studies is from Northern Illinois University, and he completed his Master’s in Media Studies at The University of Texas at Austin.
