Tom is a native Texan, born in Corpus Christi and raised (mostly) in Katy, a small-town suburb of Houston. After a long and winding road, including a seven-year career as a sommelier at several James Beard-nominated restaurants, he finally completed his B.A. in English-Creative Writing at the University of Houston. Ever since, it’s been writing or bust.
His short story “Dégustation” recently appeared in Crack the Spine #235, and his one-hour drama pilot "Expatriados" was a finalist at LiveRead/LA, and a semi-finalist for the INROADS Screenwriting Fellowship. In the past, he’s worked at Gulf Coast and Glass Mountain literary journals, Cine Las Americas, and the Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. He is currently on staff at Austin Film Society, and occasionally works as a P.A.—most recently on the CNN docuseries "American Dynasties: The Bushes."
He’s incredibly proud to be an MFA candidate at UT Austin, and is overjoyed at the opportunity to craft unique stories with some of the best screenwriting minds in the business, both experienced and new – though he’ll always miss that first sip of something cold after a long night in the weeds.
