Tom is a native Texan, born in Corpus Christi and raised (mostly) in Katy, a small-town suburb of Houston. After a long and winding road, including a seven-year career as a sommelier at several James Beard-nominated restaurants, he completed his B.A. in English-Creative Writing at the University of Houston in 2017. Ever since, it’s been writing or bust.
His short story “Dégustation” appeared in Crack the Spine #235, and his one-hour drama pilot Expatriados recently placed in the finals for LiveRead/LA, the INROADS Screenwriting Fellowship, and Write/LA. He’s also worked for Gulf Coast Literary Journal, Cine Las Americas, the Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition, and is currently on staff at Austin Film Society as a writer for their blog, AFS Viewfinders.
He’s incredibly proud to be an MFA candidate at UT Austin, and is overjoyed every day to craft stories with his insanely-talented cohort – though he’ll always miss that first sip of something cold after a long night in the weeds.
