Nicole Chi is a writer, director and producer from Costa Rica, currently based in Austin, TX. She’s an MFA Film Production candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Fulbright Fellow (2019-2021). As a documentary and narrative film lover, Nicole aspires to keep working and connecting with people through film, especially those who feel a little bit out of place in the universes they live in. As a Chinese-looking girl, born and raised in Latin America, she very well knows and understands the complexities of identity and migration, a topic of interest in her work. Her short documentary “Gaming: Oh, it’s a girl” was selected in Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (2021), in the Vertical Theater Competition and awarded Best Editing at the Vertical Movie (2020) in Italy. She is currently working on “Guián”, a feature-length documentary about her identity as a Costa Rican - Chinese and her first visit to China in the search for her deceased grandmother’s hometown. This project was awarded Costa Rica’s National Film Fund El Fauno (2020) and was recently selected for Costa Rica’s International Film Festival’s Work In Progress Industry Section (2021). She has worked as Prod. Coordinator in the Costa Rican feature films "La Boda del Tigre" (2018), "Ámbar" (2019), and Casting Director in "La Pasión de Nella Barrantes".
