PhD Student
Joseph Fischer is a Ph.D. student in Media Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds an M.A. in Film and Media Studies from Columbia University in the City of New York, where he served as rapporteur for the Cinema and Interdisciplinary Studies Seminar. In recent years, he has worked as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas State University, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, developing and teaching courses in film history, film theory, VR filmmaking, and immersive media concepts/theories. He has also worked in various theater/venue management roles at the Sundance Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and Tribeca Festival. Joseph's most recent research centers on recontextualizing new media through media archaeology, spectatorship, worldbuilding, and immersive cinema/media/exhibitions.
