MFA Screenwriting Student
Helene Bechtel is a writer from the heartland, surrounded by the waving wheat of Kansas. She grew up in a family of storytellers with Sunday afternoons spent sharing memories of comically chaotic moments and trying times. Helene took this passion for stories to the University of Kansas where she recently earned a degree in English with a focus in creative writing. Helene writes the complexities found within simplicity. From the inner workings of families to the oddities of the human experience, Helene wants to find the heart of the story that people can relate to. Film and television are the forms that allow her to best connect with characters, push herself creatively, and write authentically. Helene aspires to use her skills as a writer and also explore directing to tell her own stories as if she were spending an afternoon connecting with the audience.
